Yes. The first in-person training sessions will be here in Durham on 9th and 10th September 2024. Further two-day in-person training sessions will take place every six months for the duration of the programme – dates to follow shortly. Venues will be confirmed at a later date when we know the geographical location of our Fellows, so that we can try to make locations as central as possible.
This is for academic staff and professional services staff from further/higher education and anyone in businesses, government organisations, industry, further education colleges and third sector organisations that has some involvement in energy research. All we ask is that you have an interest in EDI, are working in an energy-related field and that your employer will support you to do this. We welcome applications from academics, engineers, researchers, professional services staff etc. as we want a representative and varied Fellowship. There is no cost for the programme and higher education staff can apply for a bursary.
If you work for a further or higher education institution or an organisation on the UKRI’s list institutions eligible for research and innovation funding (here), this is paid direct to your employer. They should pay you as normal, we will reimburse them for the equivalent of 1 working day per week (for full-time employees) for the two years of the Fellowship Programme. Up to £2,000 is also available to cover travel and accommodation costs.
Yes, you absolutely can, but the agreement for your time and and any bursary payments will be with your employer, not a third party. Any agreement your employer has with a third party in relation to your contract will need to be discussed between them. If you would like to discuss this further, please contact us at ediplus@durham.ac.uk.
Yes, the time required will still be the equivalent of 1 day per week for a full-time employee. This is not prorated for part-time employees so it might mean that you are required to spend more than one of your working days on the programme. If you are on a fixed-term contract that is due to finish prior to the end of the Fellowship Programme (September 2025), please talk to your employer about what they are happy to support. If you need any further assistance please contact us at ediplus@durham.ac.uk.
Fellows will develop ideas for their project during the programme, you do not have to have any preconceived ideas about what you want to study, or how to go about it. Once the programme is underway you can decide then and you will be taught how to undertake these projects as part of the fellowship. You do not need an academic background to take part.
The term ‘senior leader’ will vary widely from one organisation to another, we would prefer they have some influence on policy-making in your organisation and are senior enough to have some insight into how your organisation works and pathways to change. If offered a place on the programme we will work with you to find a suitable named person in your organisation and to work with you both to support communications between you.
We ask senior leaders commit to undertaking a training session initially and then hold a minimum of three reciprocal mentoring sessions with their mentee over the course of the programme. Where and how they meet and for how long is entirely between senior leaders and their mentees.
